Harbin’s Winter Tourism Booms with New Experiences and Upgraded Services

As the ice and snow tourism season reaches its peak, Harbin, the capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, is witnessing a remarkable influx of visitors. Renowned for its diverse winter activities, expanding infrastructure, and warm local hospitality, the city solidifies its position as a cornerstone in China's burgeoning ice and snow economy.

Last winter season, Harbin welcomed over 87 million tourists, marking an astounding 300 percent year-on-year increase. Tourism revenue soared by 500 percent, reaching 124.8 billion yuan ($17.3 billion). This year, the momentum continues with demand for winter leisure travel remaining robust. According to Chinese travel platform Qunar, Spring Festival hotel bookings in Harbin are up 76 percent from last year.

New Travel Experiences Drive Demand

The city's allure is further amplified by the upcoming 2025 Harbin Asian Winter Games and innovative winter-themed travel options. To cater to the growing number of tourists, new winter-themed train routes have been introduced, enhancing accessibility and offering unique experiences.

The K974 ice and snow-themed train, launched by China Railway Nanchang Group, now connects Xiamen and Harbin, making it more convenient for travelers from the south to embark on a winter adventure. Another novel addition is the K5197 ice and snow travel photography train, featuring specially designed cabins that offer studio photoshoot services—a concept that has gained popularity, particularly among elderly travelers.

\"I am 72 years old this year. I came here to experience this tourist train and the travel photography service, and it has been a wonderful surprise,\" said Jin Yue, a traveler from Liaoning Province, in an interview with China Media Group (CMG).

These new travel experiences not only cater to tourists' desires for unique and memorable journeys but also showcase Harbin's commitment to enhancing its tourism services. With upgraded amenities and a focus on customer satisfaction, the city is setting new standards in winter tourism.

A Bright Future for Harbin's Ice and Snow Economy

As Harbin continues to innovate and expand its winter offerings, it reinforces its status as a must-visit destination for travelers seeking the magic of ice and snow. The combination of traditional attractions and new experiences promises a vibrant future for the city's tourism industry, contributing significantly to the regional economy and providing visitors with unforgettable memories.
