Chinese President Xi Jinping Sends Chinese New Year Greetings to Iowa Friends, Emphasizing U.S.-China Friendship

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a Chinese New Year card to his friends in the U.S. state of Iowa, highlighting the shared interests and potential for cooperation between China and the United States. In his message, President Xi emphasized that both nations can become partners and friends, working together for mutual success and global prosperity.

Recalling Fond Memories of Iowa

President Xi reminisced about his first visit to Iowa 40 years ago, noting that the warm reception he received remains fresh in his memory. In 1985, as a young provincial official, Xi visited the small town of Muscatine, forging friendships that have endured over the decades.

Strengthening People-to-People Exchanges

Expressing his hope for increased exchanges, President Xi encouraged the peoples of both countries to visit each other more frequently. He suggested that through shared experiences and enhanced communication, China and the United States can write new stories of friendship, contributing positively to the development of bilateral relations.

A Gesture of Friendship from Iowa

Earlier, a group of 58 individuals from Iowa sent a Chinese New Year card to President Xi. The group included friends such as Luca Berrone, Gary Dvorchak, and Sarah Lande; former U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad and his wife; former President of the World Food Prize Foundation Kenneth Quinn; as well as teachers, students, and parents who participated in the \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative.

The \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative, proposed by President Xi, aims to invite 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study over a five-year period. In their card, the Iowa representatives expressed gratitude for this opportunity, shared their experiences visiting China, and conveyed their eagerness to return.

Looking Ahead to Enhanced Cooperation

President Xi's heartfelt response underscores the importance of people-to-people connections in fostering understanding and cooperation between nations. As both countries face global challenges, the deepening of friendships at all levels can pave the way for a more collaborative and prosperous future.
