China is making significant strides in deep-sea exploration as it prepares its manned submersible Jiaolong and research vessel Dayang Yihao (Ocean No. 1) for upcoming missions this year, according to the country's oceanic affairs administration.
Named after a mythical sea dragon, Jiaolong is capable of diving to depths exceeding 7,000 meters. The China-made underwater vessel has previously explored the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean, showcasing the nation's growing capabilities in marine science and technology.
The submersible is currently undergoing major upgrades, with technicians completing significant enhancements to its critical components, including the advanced lithium battery system. These improvements aim to extend its operational efficiency and ensure safer, more effective deep-sea dives.
