At a high-level reception on Monday to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, President Xi Jinping praised China's solid progress in advancing Chinese modernization despite facing \"complex and challenging\" situations over the past 12 months. Reflecting on the Year of the Dragon, Xi emphasized the nation's resilience and determination.
\"In the Year of the Dragon, we demonstrated vitality and a can-do spirit. We endured storms and saw the rainbow,\" said Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission.
Addressing over 2,000 attendees at the reception held by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to usher in the Year of the Snake, which begins on January 29, Xi highlighted China's composed response to various challenges. \"Faced with complex and challenging situations, China responded with composure and implemented a range of comprehensive measures, overcame difficulties, and forged ahead with determination,\" he stated.
President Xi extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese. He acknowledged their contributions and shared aspirations for unity and prosperity in the coming year.
Reviewing the past year's achievements, Xi noted that China effectively implemented existing policies and proactively introduced incremental measures to promote economic recovery. \"Over the past year, we have made remarkable progress in technological and industrial innovation, with new quality productive forces forging ahead steadily. Employment and consumer prices remained stable,\" he said.
Looking ahead to the Year of the Snake, President Xi called for continued efforts to advance Chinese modernization and enhance the nation's development. \"Let us carry forward the spirit of perseverance and work together to achieve new heights,\" he encouraged.
