Xi Jinping Praises China’s Progress Amid Challenges at New Year Reception

At a high-level reception to welcome the Chinese New Year on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the nation's solid progress in advancing Chinese modernization, despite facing \"complex and challenging\" situations over the past year.

\"In the Year of the Dragon, we demonstrated vitality and a can-do spirit. We endured storms and saw the rainbow,\" President Xi said, addressing over 2,000 attendees at the event organized by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council.

He emphasized that, when confronted with difficulties, China responded with composure, implemented comprehensive measures, overcame obstacles, and forged ahead with determination. The reception was held to usher in the Year of the Snake, which begins on January 29.

President Xi extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese.

\"Over the past year, China effectively implemented existing policies and proactively introduced a package of incremental policies, which helped promote the recovery of the economy,\" Xi noted.

He highlighted remarkable progress in technological and industrial innovation, with new productive forces advancing steadily. Employment and consumer prices in China also remained stable, he added.
