Chinese President Xi Jinping has extended a heartfelt Chinese New Year card to his long-time friends in the U.S. state of Iowa, rekindling a friendship that spans nearly four decades. In his message, President Xi reminisced about the warm reception he received during his visit to the picturesque state 40 years ago, noting that the memories remain vivid and cherished.
Highlighting the extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation between China and the United States, Xi expressed confidence that the two nations can become partners and friends. He emphasized that mutual success and shared prosperity are attainable goals that would benefit both countries and contribute positively to the global community.
The Chinese president conveyed his hope for increased exchanges and visits between the peoples of China and the United States. He encouraged joint efforts to create new stories of friendship and to make meaningful contributions to the development of China-U.S. relations.
Earlier, a group of 58 individuals from Iowa, including friends such as Luca Berrone, Gary Dvorchak, and Sarah Lande; former U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad and his wife; former President of the World Food Prize Foundation Kenneth Quinn; as well as teachers, students, and parents involved in an exchange initiative, had collectively sent a Chinese New Year card to President Xi. They fondly recalled Xi's first visit to Iowa in 1985 and extended their New Year greetings in anticipation of the Year of the Snake.
The representatives expressed gratitude for President Xi's \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative, which invites 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study over a five-year period. They shared their enriching experiences from visiting China and voiced their eagerness to return and further strengthen the bonds between the two nations.
