Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a Chinese New Year card to friends in the U.S. state of Iowa, expressing his warm wishes and highlighting the potential for strengthened friendship and cooperation between China and the United States.
In his message, President Xi fondly recalled his visit to the picturesque state of Iowa 40 years ago, noting that the warm reception he received remains fresh in his memory. He emphasized that China and the United States share extensive common interests and broad space for cooperation, and can become partners and friends.
President Xi expressed hope that the peoples of both nations will engage in more frequent visits and exchanges. He encouraged jointly writing new stories of friendship, contributing to the development of China-U.S. relations, and achieving mutual success and common prosperity for the benefit of both countries and the world at large.
Earlier, 58 friends from Iowa, including Luca Berrone, Gary Dvorchak, Sarah Lande, former U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad and his wife, and former President of the World Food Prize Foundation Kenneth Quinn, among others, had sent a Chinese New Year card to President Xi. The group also included teachers, students, and parents who participated in the initiative of inviting 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study over a five-year period.
In their card, they reminisced about President Xi's first visit to Iowa in 1985 and extended their New Year greetings for the Year of the Snake. The representatives expressed gratitude for the \"50,000 in Five Years\" initiative, shared their experiences visiting China, and voiced their expectations to visit again.
