Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a Chinese New Year card to his friends in the U.S. state of Iowa, expressing his warm wishes and recalling fond memories of his visit there 40 years ago.
In his message, President Xi emphasized the extensive common interests shared by China and the United States, noting the broad space for cooperation between the two nations. He expressed confidence that China and the U.S. can become partners and friends, achieving mutual success and prosperity for the benefit of both countries and the world.
Xi Jinping reminisced about the warm reception he received during his first visit to the beautiful state of Iowa in 1985, stating that the memories are still fresh in his mind. He expressed hope that people from both countries will continue to visit each other and engage in more exchanges, jointly writing new stories of friendship and contributing to the development of China-U.S. relations.
Earlier, 58 Iowa residents, including friends Luca Berrone, Gary Dvorchak, Sarah Lande, former U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad and his wife, former President of the World Food Prize Foundation Kenneth Quinn, and representatives of teachers, students, and parents, had jointly sent a Chinese New Year card to President Xi. They recalled his visit to Iowa and extended New Year greetings in the Year of the Snake.
The Iowa representatives thanked President Xi for initiating the \"50,000 in Five Years\" program, which invites 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study over a five-year period. They shared their experiences from visiting China and expressed their eagerness to return.
