Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday praised the nation's solid progress in advancing Chinese modernization despite facing \"complex and challenging\" situations over the past year. Speaking at a high-level reception to ring in the Chinese New Year, Xi highlighted the country's achievements during the Year of the Dragon.
\"In the Year of the Dragon, we demonstrated vitality and a can-do spirit. We endured storms and saw the rainbow,\" said Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission.
Addressing over 2,000 attendees at the reception held by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to usher in the Year of the Snake, which begins on January 29, Xi emphasized China's composed response to challenging circumstances. \"Faced with complex and challenging situations, China responded with composure and implemented a range of comprehensive measures, overcoming difficulties and forging ahead with determination,\" he said.
Xi extended Spring Festival greetings to the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan region, and overseas Chinese. He acknowledged their contributions and expressed hopes for continued unity and progress.
Reflecting on the past year, Xi noted that China effectively implemented existing policies and introduced a package of incremental measures that promoted economic recovery. \"We achieved remarkable progress in technological and industrial innovation, with new quality productive forces forging ahead steadily,\" he said. \"China's employment and consumer prices remained stable.\"
Xi's statements highlight the nation's resilience and commitment to modernization amid global uncertainties. As China enters the Year of the Snake, the country looks forward to building on these achievements and embracing new opportunities for development.
