Xi lauds China’s progress despite challenges in Year of Dragon

At a high-level reception on Monday to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, President Xi Jinping highlighted China's significant progress in advancing modernization over the past year, despite facing \"complex and challenging\" circumstances.

\"In the Year of the Dragon, we demonstrated vitality and a can-do spirit. We endured storms and saw the rainbow,\" Xi remarked. Besides serving as President, Xi is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Addressing the audience at the reception held by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to welcome the Year of the Snake, which begins on January 29, Xi emphasized China's composed response to difficulties. \"We overcame challenges by implementing comprehensive measures and forging ahead with determination,\" he said.

The reception, attended by over 2,000 guests, saw Xi extending Spring Festival greetings to Chinese people of all ethnic groups, compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, the Taiwan region, and overseas Chinese.

Reflecting on the past year, Xi noted that China effectively implemented existing policies and proactively introduced a package of incremental measures, which contributed to the economy's recovery.

\"China achieved remarkable progress in technological and industrial innovation,\" Xi stated, adding that new productive forces are advancing steadily. He also highlighted the stability of employment and consumer prices throughout the country.
