Xi Jinping and Joko Widodo Pledge Stronger China-Indonesia Cooperation

In a recent phone conversation, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Joko Widodo reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing mutual cooperation. The dialogue highlighted the shared aspirations of China and Indonesia to promote development and prosperity within the region.

President Xi emphasized China's readiness to work closely with Indonesia to enhance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. A key focus is ensuring the sustainable operation of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, a landmark project that symbolizes the deepening ties between the two nations. Xi expressed enthusiasm for creating new avenues of collaboration that will benefit the people of both countries.

Reflecting on President Widodo's decade in office, Xi noted the significant progress made in China-Indonesia relations. \"During your 10 years as Indonesian president, you've visited China eight times and we've met 12 times,\" Xi remarked. \"Together, we've opened a new chapter in building a community with a shared future and established a new pattern of comprehensive strategic cooperation.\"

Xi conveyed China's high regard for Widodo's contributions to fostering friendship between the two countries. He expressed confidence that Indonesia's new government will continue to pursue friendly policies toward China, further elevating the China-Indonesia community with a shared future.

Looking ahead to the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference next year, Xi highlighted the importance of upholding the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit. He proposed that China and Indonesia strengthen solidarity and cooperation among Global South countries, safeguard the common interests of developing nations, and work together to promote regional and global development, prosperity, and stability.

President Widodo reflected on the past decade, expressing his deep friendship with President Xi. \"Our close ties have led to significant achievements in our comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields,\" Widodo said.

He extended gratitude to China for its contributions to Indonesia's economic development, particularly noting the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway as a model of Belt and Road cooperation. Widodo voiced confidence that under Indonesia's new government, the strong momentum of growth in Indonesia-China relations will continue.
