Ice Hockey Tournament Among SCO Members Kicks Off in Harbin

Northeast China's Harbin City is set to host a thrilling three-day ice hockey tournament among members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), starting this Saturday. Teams from China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan will compete in a series of matches aimed at fostering regional sports exchanges and strengthening ties within the SCO.

The four teams will face off in six matches following a single round-robin schedule at the renowned Harbin Ice Hockey Arena, a venue that gained acclaim during the 1996 Asian Winter Games. Fans can look forward to high-caliber performances from strong line-ups, including the home team Shenzhen Kunlun Red Star and Kazakhstan's Almaty Hockey League.

This event is part of the ongoing winter sports exchanges among SCO members, highlighting the organization's commitment to promoting not only political and economic cooperation but also cultural and social connections through sports.

Established in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, the SCO now comprises nine member states, three observer states, and 14 dialogue partners. The organization plays a pivotal role in fostering regional peace, development, and mutual understanding among its diverse members.

The 2024 SCO summit was held in July in Astana, Kazakhstan, and China is set to host next year's meeting, further emphasizing its active role within the organization.
