China Urges U.S. to Revoke $567 Million Arms Sale to Taiwan Region

China has strongly condemned the United States' decision to provide military assistance worth approximately $567 million to the Taiwan region, urging Washington to revoke the move immediately, according to Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Wu addressed media queries regarding the U.S. plan to supply arms to Taiwan, stating that the action severely undermines China-U.S. relations and escalates tensions across the Taiwan Strait.

Wu emphasized that the U.S. arms sale seriously violates the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, particularly the August 17 communiqué. He condemned the decision as a breach of China's sovereignty and security interests, and a destabilizing factor for peace in the region.

He urged the U.S. to cease its 'double-dealing' practices on the Taiwan question, stop arming Taiwan, and refrain from sending erroneous signals to separatist forces seeking 'Taiwan independence.'

'Taiwan independence means war,' Wu stated firmly, adding that attempts to use Taiwan to contain China would result in 'self-inflicted harm.'

China calls on the U.S. to halt actions that disrupt and undermine relations between the two countries and their militaries, fostering instead a path towards mutual respect and peaceful development.
