More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts progress, communities are coming together to support one another.
In the small village of Cuo'ang, nestled in Quluo Town, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a role beyond their usual duties. Amid the chilly mountain air, they are preparing a hearty lunch for villagers affected by the quake.
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline where the scent of warm meals blended with the crisp scent of pine. The firefighters, usually seen battling wildfires or providing emergency aid, donned aprons over their uniforms as they chopped vegetables and stirred steaming pots.
\"We want to ensure that everyone has a hot meal during this challenging time,\" said one of the firefighters. \"It's our way of helping the community recover.\"
Villagers gathered around, sharing stories and expressing gratitude. For many, this communal meal offers not just nourishment but a comforting sense of normalcy and hope.
The collaborative efforts in Cuo'ang Village reflect the broader spirit of resilience throughout the region. As reconstruction continues, stories like these highlight the strength and solidarity of communities in the face of adversity.
