For the past three years, photographer Wang Wen-hsien from Beigang Town on the island of Taiwan has been making regular trips across the Taiwan Strait to Meizhou Island in Fujian Province, southeastern China. His mission is to capture through his lens the vibrant events related to Mazu, the revered goddess of the sea worshipped across southern China and beyond.
Wang is deeply fascinated by the rich Mazu culture on Meizhou Island, considered the birthplace of the goddess. Through his photographs, he aims to document the spiritual devotion and cultural practices that have united people on both sides of the strait for centuries.
