Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Northern Theater Command on Friday, extending festive greetings to service personnel ahead of the Spring Festival.
President Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), met with officers and soldiers of the Northern Theater Command in the morning. He then communicated with representatives of troops across the military via video link.
During the meetings, officers and soldiers briefed President Xi on their combat readiness duties and mission execution status. Xi acknowledged their dedication and fully affirmed their efforts.
He emphasized the importance of bolstering combat readiness to effectively respond to emergencies and safeguard national security and social stability during the holidays. \"Troops should enhance the enforcement of their combat readiness duties,\" Xi said, highlighting the need for vigilance.
The Spring Festival, marking the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on January 29 this year. On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the CMC, President Xi extended his festive greetings to all service personnel of the PLA and the People's Armed Police Force, civilian personnel in the military, and members of militia and reserve forces.
