Xi Jinping’s Liaoning Visit Signals Commitment to Disaster Recovery and Development

Chinese President Xi Jinping recently toured Liaoning Province in northeast China, marking his first domestic inspection in 2025. His visit focused on disaster recovery, urban renewal, and industrial advancement, highlighting his commitment to improving the well-being of the Chinese people.

On January 22, President Xi visited Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas hardest hit by the unprecedented torrential downpours during the summer floods in Liaoning in 2024. In response to the disaster, the village committee swiftly constructed new homes on higher ground for severely affected households. Tailored to each family's needs, the new village emerged in less than two months, providing nearly 200 disaster-stricken people with warm homes before the onset of winter.

During his inspection, Xi assessed the progress of post-disaster restoration, visiting the homes of relocated villagers and inquiring about the quality of their new residences and provisions for daily life. This visit reflects his enduring commitment to a 'people-first' philosophy and enhancing the sense of security among residents.

On January 23, Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, Liaoning's capital, to observe how public services are being optimized to improve residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas, upgrading all 13 residential buildings and public spaces. Initiatives promoting quality employment, education, health services, and elderly care have been launched to support the community's residents.

Xi also toured a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group in Benxi to gain insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading, promoting high-quality development in the region's industrial sector.

President Xi's visit underscores his dedication to addressing the needs of grassroots communities and fostering sustainable development. His hands-on approach in Liaoning demonstrates a continued commitment to improving livelihoods and advancing economic growth across China.
