President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Advance High-Quality Development

On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing. The gathering reviewed crucial reports and opinions aimed at advancing China's high-quality development and ecological protection, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The meeting examined the work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). It also reviewed the report from the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

Recognizing the achievements of these leading Party members' groups over the past year, the meeting approved their work plans for 2025. The focus for 2025 is to prioritize effective action, consolidate efforts to push forward reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The meeting emphasized the need for the Secretariat to enhance political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The leaders called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law, underscoring the basin's significance to China's environmental sustainability and economic growth.

Strategic actions were proposed to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.

In addition, efforts will be made to synergize the Yellow River's high-quality development with the large-scale development strategies of the western region and the rise of the central region. The holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage was also highlighted, alongside promoting the integration of culture and tourism to boost regional development.
