China has signaled its openness to dialogue with the European Union on intellectual property issues, following a recent complaint filed by the EU at the World Trade Organization (WTO). On Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that channels of communication with the EU remain \"always open,\" emphasizing a willingness to engage constructively on the matter.
The EU's complaint centers on China's judicial rulings concerning standard essential patent disputes. According to the Ministry, China received a consultation request from the EU on January 20, acknowledging the EU's concerns and expressing readiness to address them through appropriate WTO mechanisms.
In an online statement, the Ministry of Commerce stressed China's adherence to WTO rules and its commitments made upon accession. The Ministry highlighted ongoing efforts to improve legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR), noting that these achievements have been widely recognized globally.
\"China has consistently upheld the protection of intellectual property rights, aligning with international standards,\" the Ministry stated. \"We will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.\"
