China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property issues remain open, emphasizing a commitment to ongoing dialogue and cooperation.
The statement comes in response to the EU's filing of a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial rulings on standard essential patent disputes. The complaint was submitted on January 20, and China received the EU's consultation request on the same day.
In an online statement addressing media inquiries, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce highlighted China's adherence to WTO rules and its commitments made upon accession. The ministry underscored that China has continuously improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized internationally.
\"China has always strictly abided by WTO rules and its commitments upon joining the organization,\" the ministry stated. \"We have consistently enhanced our legal framework and enforcement mechanisms for intellectual property protection, with significant achievements acknowledged globally.\"
The ministry added that China will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO procedures and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. It expressed hope for constructive consultations with the EU to resolve the issues at hand.
