Firefighters Bring Warmth to Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

It's been more than a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. In the wake of the disaster, communities are coming together, and stories of resilience and compassion are emerging from the rubble.

In the small village of Cuo'ang in Quluo Town, the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit is doing more than just rescue operations. Today, they are preparing a warm lunch for the quake-affected villagers, bringing comfort and hope to those who have lost so much.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness firsthand the efforts of these dedicated firefighters. Amidst the remnants of homes and the cold winter air, the aroma of freshly cooked food fills the village square, drawing smiles from the weary residents.

Captain Li Wei of the firefighting unit shared, \"We are here not only to assist with the rescue and reconstruction but also to support the villagers in any way we can. Cooking a meal might seem small, but in times like these, it brings people together.\"

Villagers gathered around communal tables, sharing stories and offering each other solace. For many, this is the first hot meal they have had since the earthquake disrupted their lives.

Eighty-year-old resident, Grandma Tsering, expressed her gratitude, \"The firefighters have been like family to us. Their kindness gives us strength to rebuild our homes.\"

The earthquake has left significant damage in its wake, and resettlement and reconstruction efforts are ongoing. Aid workers and volunteers from across the region have flocked to Dingri County to provide assistance.

The solidarity shown by the firefighters and volunteers exemplifies the communal spirit that is driving the recovery efforts in Xizang.

As the villagers finish their meals, the firefighters begin preparing for their next task, whether it be clearing debris, setting up temporary shelters, or providing medical assistance.

The road to recovery may be long, but with the unwavering support from local heroes like the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit, the villagers of Cuo'ang are not alone.
