China has expressed its openness to ongoing communication with the European Union (EU) on issues related to intellectual property rights, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
The statement comes in response to the EU's recent complaint filed at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patent disputes. The EU filed the complaint on Monday, alleging that China's policies are undermining the intellectual property rights of EU companies.
The Ministry of Commerce confirmed that China received a consultation request from the EU on January 20, reflecting the EU's concerns over the matter. The ministry emphasized that channels of communication remain open and that China is willing to engage in dialogue to address the issues raised.
\"China has strictly adhered to WTO rules and its commitments upon accession,\" the ministry stated. \"We have continually improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, and our achievements have been widely recognized.\"
The ministry added that China will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO procedures and is committed to firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.
This development highlights the ongoing discussions between China and the EU regarding the protection of intellectual property rights, a critical issue for global businesses and investors operating in both regions.
