Firefighters Cook Lunch for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The tremor left many villagers displaced and in need of assistance as resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue. Amidst the ongoing challenges, a heartwarming scene unfolds in Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, where members of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit are lending a helping hand in an unexpected way.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness firefighters exchanging their helmets for aprons as they prepare lunch for the quake-affected villagers. The aroma of freshly cooked meals fills the air, offering not just nourishment but also comfort and a sense of normalcy to those who have lost so much.

\"We want to do more than just rebuild structures; we aim to uplift spirits,\" says a firefighter from the unit. \"Cooking for the villagers is our way of showing that we're here for them in every possible way.\"

The unity and resilience displayed by both the firefighters and residents highlight the community's determination to overcome adversity. Children gather around the makeshift kitchen, eyes wide with curiosity and hope, as adults share stories of courage and gratitude.

As reconstruction efforts progress, the collaborative spirit between the rescuers and the locals serves as a beacon of hope. The firefighters' gesture underscores the profound impact of solidarity during times of crisis, embodying the essence of humanity coming together in the face of disaster.
