Xi Jinping’s Liaoning Visit: Warmth and Commitment in 2025

Chinese President Xi Jinping recently toured Liaoning Province in northeast China, marking his first domestic inspection in 2025. His visit focused on disaster recovery, urban renewal, and industrial advancement, highlighting his ongoing commitment to the well-being of the people.

A Tradition of Grassroots Engagement

This year marks the 13th consecutive year that President Xi has visited grassroots communities ahead of the Spring Festival, the most significant festival in China. It is also his fourth visit to Liaoning since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012, underscoring the importance he places on connecting with local communities.

Post-Disaster Recovery in Zhujiagou Village

On January 22, President Xi visited Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas hardest hit by the devastating floods of 2024 caused by unprecedented torrential downpours. In response to the disaster, the village committee swiftly constructed new homes for severely affected households on higher ground. Tailored to each family's needs, the new housing was completed in less than two months, providing nearly 200 disaster-stricken people with warm homes before winter's onset.

During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration, visiting the homes of relocated villagers. He inquired about the quality of the new houses and the provisions for their daily lives, demonstrating his deep concern for the people's well-being.

People-First Philosophy in Action

President Xi's dedication to improving people's livelihoods has been a consistent focus of his leadership. As early as the 2013 National People's Congress, while participating in the deliberations of the Liaoning delegation, he emphasized the importance of ensuring and enhancing the well-being of the populace. He urged special attention to those facing difficulties and the delivery of tangible benefits to the people. The swift relocation efforts after the flood exemplify this \"people-first\" philosophy and a commitment to enhancing residents' sense of security.

Urban Renewal in Shenyang's Chang'an Community

On January 23, President Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, to observe how public services are being optimized to improve residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas. Upgrades to all 13 residential buildings and public spaces have been completed, along with initiatives promoting quality employment, education, health services, and elderly care to support residents.

Promoting High-Quality Development in Industry

President Xi also toured a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group in Benxi, another city in Liaoning Province. He gained insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation, upgrade its operations, and promote high-quality development. The visit underscores the emphasis on modernizing industries to foster sustainable economic growth.

A Reflection of Commitment

President Xi Jinping's visit to Liaoning Province reflects his ongoing commitment to addressing the needs of the people, promoting social welfare, and advancing economic development. His hands-on approach and direct engagement with communities embody a leadership style that prioritizes the well-being of citizens and the prosperity of the nation.
