On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, extended festive greetings to members of non-CPC political parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), personages without party affiliation, and other united front members ahead of the upcoming Spring Festival.
Speaking at the annual gathering held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi, who is also the Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving China's developmental goals. The Spring Festival, marking the Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on January 29 this year.
Xi highlighted the need for more proactive and impactful macroeconomic policies to sustain the country's economic growth in 2025. He urged a focus on high-quality development and the promotion of greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology. "We must maintain sound social and economic development to achieve the targets set in the 14th Five-Year Plan and lay a solid foundation for the next five years," he stated.
Addressing the non-CPC political parties, the ACFIC, and personages without party affiliation, Xi called for greater involvement in the nation's central tasks. "Leverage your unique strengths to rally broader support, build consensus, and pool wisdom and strength," he encouraged. He stressed the vital role these groups play in mobilizing positive forces to advance development.
Xi also underscored the necessity of tackling critical challenges, specifically pointing to the supervision and protection of the Yangtze River ecosystem. He called for concerted efforts to address environmental issues that impact the nation's long-term sustainability.
In his message to the ACFIC, Xi urged the federation to guide the private sector in fostering entrepreneurship and bolstering confidence in development. He emphasized the importance of establishing and improving modern corporate systems with distinctive Chinese features, which would contribute to the nation's economic resilience.
As China approaches the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), Xi expressed hope that all united front members would actively contribute ideas and proposals. "Your insights are invaluable in comprehensively deepening reform and promoting high-quality development," he affirmed.
The gathering reflected a collective commitment to China's future, with an emphasis on unity, innovation, and shared responsibility. As the nation prepares to celebrate the Spring Festival, Xi's message serves as a call to action for all sectors of society to work together towards common goals.
