Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in the Chinese mainland. \"We hope that U.S. businesses will play an active role as a bridge, contributing significantly to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations,\" he said.
Han noted that President Xi Jinping and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the future of bilateral relations during a phone conversation. \"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" Han stated. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of our peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.\"
He acknowledged the pivotal role of the U.S. business community as a participant, witness, contributor, and beneficiary of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. Han assured that China would continue to advance reform and opening-up and improve its business environment.
The representatives of the U.S. business community responded positively, expressing optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They highlighted that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message. \"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they said.
The U.S. business leaders affirmed their support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla's continued investment in China, stating, \"China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize the opportunity to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.\"
Musk expressed enthusiasm for deepening Tesla's investment and cooperation with China and emphasized the company's commitment to playing an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
