Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday in Washington D.C., emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations and encouraging continued investment by U.S. companies in China.

During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. businesses would continue to invest and establish roots in China, acting as a bridge to foster steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative, at the invitation of the United States.

He highlighted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. Han noted that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation. He emphasized that starting the bilateral relationship on the right foot and maintaining steady growth serves the well-being of both peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.

\"The U.S. business community has always been the backbone of China-U.S. relations,\" Han said, acknowledging their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China would continue to advance its reform and opening-up and improve its business environment.

Representatives from the U.S. business community, including those from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive message sent by the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi, and supported strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence, the representatives noted.

Later on Sunday, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla's continued investment in China and encouraged U.S. companies to seize the opportunities presented by China's development.

Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
