Firefighters Prepare Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of compassion and community support are emerging from the affected areas.

In Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a unique role beyond their traditional duties. Amid the rubble and ongoing relief work, these firefighters are donning aprons and chef's hats, preparing lunch for the villagers who have been displaced by the earthquake.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness this heartwarming scene. The firefighters, accustomed to battling blazes and conducting rescue operations, have turned their attention to nourishing the bodies and spirits of the local residents. Using makeshift kitchens set up amidst the village ruins, they are cooking meals that not only provide sustenance but also a sense of normalcy and comfort during this challenging time.

Villagers expressed their gratitude for the firefighters' efforts. \"They have been our heroes since the quake struck,\" said one resident. \"Not only did they help save lives, but now they are here ensuring we have hot meals every day.\"

The camaraderie between the firefighters and villagers underscores the resilience and solidarity of the community. As rebuilding continues, such acts of kindness play a crucial role in healing and recovery.
