It's been more than a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The tremors left many villagers displaced and in need of immediate assistance. Amidst the ongoing resettlement and reconstruction efforts, a heartfelt story of compassion unfolds in the remote Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town.
In the heart of the village, members of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a role beyond their call of duty. Not only are they working tirelessly to ensure safety and aid in rebuilding, but they are also preparing warm meals for the affected villagers. The aroma of freshly cooked food mingles with the crisp mountain air, bringing a sense of comfort to those who have lost so much.
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness this act of kindness firsthand. \"The villagers have been through a lot,\" says one of the firefighters, stirring a pot over an open flame. \"We hope that by sharing a meal, we can offer them some warmth and a moment of normalcy.\"
The firefighters have set up a makeshift kitchen in the village square, where they cook hearty dishes using local ingredients. Children gather around, their faces lighting up as plates of steaming food are handed out. For many, it's the first hot meal they've had since the earthquake.
\"The firefighters are like family to us now,\" says Tsering, a resident of Cuo'ang Village. \"They've not only protected us but have shared in our struggles and joys. We are grateful for their support.\"
The collaborative efforts between the rescue teams and the villagers highlight the resilience and unity of the community in the face of adversity. As reconstruction continues, stories like these remind us of the human connections that strengthen societies during challenging times.
