China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues remain open. The statement comes in response to the EU filing a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning China's judicial rulings on standard essential patent disputes.
The Ministry confirmed that it received the EU's consultation request on January 20. In an online statement addressing media inquiries, the Ministry emphasized China's strict adherence to WTO rules and its commitments made upon accession to the organization.
\"China has consistently improved its legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, and its achievements have been widely recognized,\" the Ministry stated.
China intends to address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and is determined to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, according to the Ministry.
The EU's complaint centers on concerns over China's handling of standard essential patent disputes, which the EU alleges may hinder European companies from effectively protecting their intellectual property rights in China.
