Firefighters Cook Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. Resettlement and reconstruction efforts are still underway, but amidst the challenges, stories of solidarity and resilience are emerging.

In the small village of Cuo'ang, nestled in Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit are making a heartfelt contribution to the community. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed these dedicated firefighters stepping beyond their usual duties to prepare lunch for the quake-affected villagers.

Amidst the crisp mountain air, the aroma of freshly cooked food fills the village. Firefighters chop vegetables, stir pots, and serve meals with smiles, bringing warmth and comfort to residents who have faced significant hardship.

\"We want to do everything we can to support the villagers,\" said one firefighter. \"Cooking a meal is a simple act, but it helps lift everyone's spirits during this difficult time.\"

The communal meals have become a gathering point for the community, offering a sense of normalcy and fostering strong bonds between the villagers and the first responders. Children share laughter, and elders express heartfelt gratitude for the kindness shown.

The resilience of the people of Xizang shines through as they work together to rebuild. With the continued support of dedicated teams like the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit, hope and unity are paving the way toward recovery.

As reconstruction progresses, the cooperative spirit between the villagers and the firefighters serves as a powerful reminder of the strength found in community and compassion.
