Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, attending the inauguration of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in Washington D.C. on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative, met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday to strengthen China-U.S. economic ties.
During the meeting, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China. He emphasized the important role that U.S. businesses play as a bridge between the two nations and encouraged them to contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump had recently engaged in a phone conversation, reaching significant common understandings regarding the future development of bilateral relations. \"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" Han stated. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community.\"
He acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, highlighting their participation, witness, contribution, and benefit in bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up drive. Han assured that China would unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce attended the meeting. They expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and the opportunities for development there. The recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi, they noted, sent a positive and encouraging message. As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, they emphasized that the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist.
The U.S. business community voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two countries to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
In a separate meeting on Sunday, Han Zheng met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development. He encouraged them to make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk expressed that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China. He affirmed Tesla's commitment to playing an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
