On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing. The meeting focused on reviewing reports from leading Party members' groups and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of key state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting fully recognized the achievements of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of prioritizing action, pooling strength to push forward reforms, and contributing to advancing high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. It called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and urged systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Efforts were also urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the Yellow River. The meeting stressed the need to integrate the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin with strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It also emphasized improving holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was called upon to boost political ability, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
