On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing. The meeting focused on reviewing key reports and setting the course for China's high-quality development and ecological protection efforts in the coming year.
During the meeting, the Political Bureau reviewed a comprehensive report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from various state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting recognized the significant achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It was noted that in 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions must prioritize effective action, consolidate efforts to drive reforms, and contribute anew to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China.
The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was encouraged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and successfully accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on comprehensively promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Political Bureau emphasized the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law. Efforts will be made to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The meeting also called for ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It stressed the need to align the Yellow River's high-quality development with the broader strategies of large-scale development in the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, there was a focus on improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development along the Yellow River Basin.
