Firefighters Cook Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

More than a week has passed since a powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of resilience and solidarity emerge from the quake-affected areas.

In the remote Cuo'ang Village of Quluo Town, the firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have become more than just first responders—they are part of the community. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness how these brave men and women are supporting the locals not just with disaster relief, but also by providing comfort through shared meals.

The aroma of cooking wafted through the crisp mountain air as firefighters busied themselves over steaming pots and sizzling pans. \"We wanted to offer the villagers a warm meal to lift their spirits,\" said one firefighter, stirring a hearty stew. The villagers, many of whom have been displaced from their homes, gathered around the makeshift kitchen, their faces lighting up with gratitude and hope.

Among them was Dorje, a resident whose home was damaged in the quake. \"The firefighters have been a tremendous help,\" he shared. \"Not only are they helping rebuild our homes, but they're also taking care of us like family.\"

The lunch brought together young and old, with laughter and conversation providing a respite from the challenges they face. Children enjoyed the rare treat, while elders expressed their heartfelt thanks to the firefighters who have been working tirelessly since the disaster struck.

As reconstruction continues, the collaborative efforts between the villagers and the firefighters symbolize the strength and unity of the community. Acts of kindness like these meals are helping to heal wounds and rebuild not just structures, but also lives.

Resilience is a hallmark of the people of Xizang, and with the support of dedicated teams like the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit, the path to recovery is paved with compassion and solidarity.
