China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday that channels of communication with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues remain open, emphasizing a willingness to engage in dialogue amidst rising tensions.
Earlier on the same day, the EU filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China concerning judicial decisions on standard essential patent disputes. The EU's move reflects concerns over China's policies affecting European patent holders.
In an online statement responding to media inquiries, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce acknowledged receiving a consultation request from the EU on January 20.
\"China has adhered strictly to WTO rules and its accession commitments, and has continually improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights. Our achievements have been widely recognized,\" the ministry stated.
The ministry added that China would address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
The exchange highlights the complexities of international trade relations, particularly in the realm of intellectual property rights, which are crucial for innovation and economic development.
