China Urges Renewed Cooperation with India for Mutual Development

In a call for renewed collaboration, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized the importance of China and India focusing on development and cooperation to restore their bilateral relationship to a healthy and stable trajectory. Speaking at a daily press briefing on Tuesday, Guo highlighted the significance of the two nations as major developing countries and emerging economies.

\"As two ancient civilizations and significant emerging economies, China and India should concentrate on development and cooperation,\" Guo stated. \"This approach serves the fundamental interests of over 2.8 billion people in both countries, aligns with the aspirations of nations and people in the region, corresponds with the remarkable growth trend of the Global South, and contributes to regional and global peace and prosperity.\"

Guo's remarks came in response to recent comments by Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who noted that India-China relations impact the larger prospects of both nations and the global order. Jaishankar affirmed that India would handle its relations with China from a long-term perspective.

The spokesperson underscored the need for both countries to earnestly implement the important common understandings reached between their leaders. \"China and India are each other's development opportunities rather than threats, and cooperation partners rather than competitors,\" Guo said.

\"We need to view and handle bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective,\" he continued. \"By bringing the relationship back on track toward healthy and stable development, we can find the right path for large neighboring countries to live in harmony and develop side by side.\"

Guo called on both nations to adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, practice genuine multilateralism, advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world, and promote universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization. \"Together, we can make greater contributions to safeguarding and promoting world peace, stability, development, and prosperity,\" he added.
