Beijing — In a significant move towards advancing China's high-quality development and ecological conservation efforts, President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a pivotal meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.
The meeting reviewed comprehensive reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, following in-depth discussions on the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from key state organs, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.
One of the critical highlights of the meeting was the review of opinions on promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, a region of immense historical and cultural significance to China.
The meeting acknowledged and fully recognized the achievements of the leading Party members' groups over the past year, approving their ambitious work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the need for action, the meeting called on these groups to prioritize effective implementation, unite efforts to push forward reforms, and contribute substantially to advancing high-quality development and the broader vision of Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin were underscored as matters of national importance. The meeting highlighted the necessity of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law, systematic enhancement of water source conservation in the upper reaches, reinforcing soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Furthermore, the meeting called for ensuring the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs, strengthening synergy between the Yellow River's development and other regional strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It also emphasized the importance of holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
