Firefighters Cook Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of community solidarity are emerging from the region.

At Cuo’ang Village in Quluo Town, Dingri County, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have gone beyond their call of duty. Committed to aiding the affected residents, they have taken up the role of chefs, preparing lunch for villagers displaced by the earthquake.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, joined the frontline efforts to witness firsthand the camaraderie and support being offered. The firefighters, clad in their uniforms, were seen chopping vegetables, stirring large pots, and serving hot meals to grateful villagers.

“We want to do more than just provide safety; we want to bring comfort to the people during this difficult time,” said one of the firefighters. Their actions have brought warmth and hope to a community striving to rebuild and recover.

The villagers of Cuo’ang expressed heartfelt gratitude for the firefighters’ assistance. “They have been a pillar of support, not just in ensuring our safety but also in taking care of our daily needs,” shared a resident.

As reconstruction progresses, such acts of kindness reflect the resilience and unity of the people in Xizang. The collaborative efforts between the firefighters and the community exemplify the spirit of overcoming adversity together.
