President Xi Jinping has chaired a critical meeting of the Communist Party of China (CPC) focused on reviewing key reports and promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
At the meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held on Monday, leaders reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after discussing work reports from leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting fully recognized the efforts of these institutions over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of these leading Party members’ groups making it a priority to accomplish their tasks, collaborate on reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the modernization of China.
The CPC Central Committee’s Secretariat was urged to enhance political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively carry out all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant focus of the meeting was the promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often called the “Mother River” of China, is vital to the country’s ecological health and cultural heritage.
The meeting called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined a comprehensive strategy to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Efforts were urged to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. The meeting also stressed the need to align the Yellow River’s development with broader national strategies, including the large-scale development of western regions and the rise of central regions.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the importance of holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development to boost economic growth and cultural exchange.
