Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The resettlement and reconstruction efforts are ongoing as local communities strive to restore normalcy.
In the small village of Cuo’ang, located in Quluo Town, Dingri County, a group of firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on an unexpected role. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness firsthand how these firefighters are not only providing emergency services but also cooking meals for the earthquake-affected villagers.
Amid the rubble and the challenges of rebuilding, the aroma of a warm meal brings a sense of comfort and hope to the residents of Cuo’ang Village. “Our primary mission is to safeguard people’s lives and property,” said one of the firefighters. “In these difficult times, we want to support the villagers in every way we can.”
