Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The resettlement and reconstruction efforts are ongoing as local communities strive to restore normalcy.
In the small village of Cuo’ang, located in Quluo Town, Dingri County, a group of firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on an unexpected role. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness firsthand how these firefighters are not only providing emergency services but also cooking meals for the earthquake-affected villagers.
Amid the rubble and the challenges of rebuilding, the aroma of a warm meal brings a sense of comfort and hope to the residents of Cuo’ang Village. The firefighters, equipped with their field kitchen, prepare lunch for the villagers, ensuring that everyone has a hearty meal to sustain them through the day’s work.
“Our primary mission is to safeguard people’s lives and property,” said one of the firefighters. “In these difficult times, we want to support the villagers in every way we can.”
The collaborative spirit between the firefighters and the villagers exemplifies the resilience and unity of the community. As they share meals and stories, there is a renewed sense of camaraderie and determination to rebuild their homes and lives.
The efforts of the firefighters extend beyond their traditional duties, highlighting the compassionate response to the disaster. Their actions not only provide immediate relief but also strengthen the bonds within the community.
As resettlement continues, the support from various teams like the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit plays a crucial role in the recovery process. The shared meals serve as a reminder that, together, the people of Dingri County will overcome the aftermath of the earthquake.
