Xi Jinping Calls for Strengthening China-Vietnam Ties and Shared Future

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for strengthened ties and deeper strategic mutual trust with Vietnam, aiming to build a China-Vietnam community with a shared future. Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, Xi exchanged congratulations with Vietnamese leaders, emphasizing the strategic significance of their partnership.

In his message to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong, Xi highlighted the profound friendship between the two socialist neighbors. “China and Vietnam represent a community with a shared future that carries strategic significance,” Xi said, underlining the historical bonds and mutual support in their struggles for national independence and liberation.

Xi recalled that since establishing diplomatic ties 75 years ago, both countries have “fought side by side and supported each other,” fostering a relationship best described as “comrades and brothers.” He noted that advancing socialism together has deepened comprehensive strategic cooperation, with both nations sharing the same ideals and pursuing a shared future.

Reflecting on his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, Xi mentioned the pledge made by both sides to elevate relations to a new stage. “We pledged to work for a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance,” he said, emphasizing the importance of this commitment in the face of unprecedented global changes.

Xi stressed that continued adherence to socialism by China and Vietnam is crucial not only for their own futures but also for the global socialist cause. “It is of great significance to the peace, stability, development, and prosperity of the region and the world at large,” he remarked.

Expressing his dedication to bilateral relations, Xi stated his readiness to “work with Vietnamese leaders to take the opportunity of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges.” He emphasized the need to “keep in mind the original mission and forge ahead on the new journey toward socialist modernization,” aiming to deliver more benefits to their peoples and contribute to human development and progress.
