Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting of the CPC Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing important reports and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.
The meeting acknowledged the achievements of these leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action in 2025, the meeting called on the leading Party members’ groups of the five state institutions to prioritize effectiveness, unite efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and fulfill all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The meeting highlighted the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law. It called for systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The meeting also underscored the need to ensure the safety of crucial dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. It emphasized strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River’s high-quality development and national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Moreover, it stressed improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development in the region.
