Firefighters Cook Lunch for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of solidarity and compassion are emerging from the quake-affected areas.

In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on roles beyond their usual duties. Understanding the hardships faced by the villagers, they rolled up their sleeves to prepare lunch for the community, offering not just food but comfort and support during this challenging time.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed the heartfelt efforts of these firefighters as they chopped vegetables, stirred large pots over open flames, and served meals with smiles. Their actions have brought a sense of normalcy and hope to the villagers, many of whom are still grappling with the aftermath of the quake.

“We want to do whatever we can to help,” said one firefighter. “Cooking meals is a small gesture, but we hope it brings some relief to the people here.”

The villagers expressed deep gratitude for the assistance. “They are not just rescuers; they are like family to us now,” said an elderly resident of Cuo’ang Village.

The collaborative efforts between the firefighters and local residents highlight the resilience and unity of the community. As rebuilding continues, such acts of kindness play a crucial role in healing and moving forward.
