Firefighters Cook Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The aftermath has left communities rebuilding and resettling, with efforts underway to restore normalcy to the affected areas.

In the midst of these challenges, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on roles beyond their call of duty. At Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, Dingri County, these dedicated firefighters are not only assisting with reconstruction but also preparing meals for the quake-affected villagers.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness the heartfelt actions of these firefighters. Amidst the ruins, the aroma of hot meals brings comfort and a sense of community to those who have faced loss and uncertainty. The firefighters’ efforts go beyond physical assistance; they are providing emotional support and fostering hope among the villagers.

“We want to do everything we can to help the residents recover,” said a member of the firefighting unit. “Cooking meals is just one way we can make their lives a little easier during this difficult time.”

The collaborative spirit between the firefighters and the villagers exemplifies the resilience and unity of the people in Xizang. As reconstruction continues, such acts of kindness play a crucial role in healing and rebuilding the community.
