President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing pivotal reports and opinions to chart the course for China’s high-quality development and ecological conservation efforts.
The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also evaluated.
The meeting fully recognized the accomplishments of these state institutions over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of effective execution, the meeting called on the leading Party members’ groups of the five state institutions to prioritize key tasks, unify efforts to drive reforms, and make new contributions to advancing high-quality development and achieving Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin were highlighted as crucial objectives. The meeting called for the comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. It emphasized systematic measures to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was identified as a key priority. The meeting also stressed the importance of aligning the Yellow River’s high-quality development with national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It advocated for the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
This meeting reflects the CPC Central Committee’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and ecological preservation, steering the nation towards modernization and long-term prosperity.
