Firefighters Cook Meals for Earthquake Survivors in Xizang

Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of resilience and community support emerge from the affected areas.

In the small village of Cuo’ang, Quluo Town, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on more than their usual duties. Amid the cold and uncertainty, they are preparing warm meals for the villagers who have been displaced by the quake.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness the firefighters’ efforts firsthand. The aroma of freshly cooked food fills the air as the firefighters chop vegetables, stir pots, and serve meals with smiles. For many villagers, these meals are a comforting reminder that they are not alone in this challenging time.

“Cooking for the villagers is our way of showing support and helping them regain a sense of normalcy,” said one of the firefighters. “We are here not just to fight fires, but to stand with our community in any crisis.”

The joint efforts of the firefighters and local residents exemplify the spirit of solidarity that is vital in the aftermath of such natural disasters. As rebuilding progresses, acts of kindness like these provide hope and strength to those affected.
