Anticipating Davos 2025: Collaborating for the Intelligent Age

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is set to convene its annual meeting from January 20 to 24 in Davos, Switzerland. This significant gathering will bring together nearly 3,000 leaders from politics, academia, and business, including 60 heads of state and government. The forum has long been a catalyst for global dialogue, fostering discussions that address critical issues facing the international community.

Throughout its history, the WEF has been instrumental in sparking bilateral and multilateral initiatives. In 1992, for instance, Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk met outside South Africa for the first time at Davos, symbolizing a pivotal moment in the global fight against apartheid. Similarly, in 1998, amidst a financial crisis, the idea of creating a regular dialogue platform between developed and developing nations emerged during the forum, ultimately laying the groundwork for the Group of 20.

As the world grapples with increasing geopolitical and economic uncertainties, trade tensions, cultural polarization, and climate challenges, the upcoming Davos 2025 meeting is anticipated to be even more critical. These complex and interconnected issues demand collaborative solutions and innovative approaches.

The theme for Davos 2025 is “Collaborating for the Intelligent Age,” highlighting how converging technologies are rapidly transforming our world. Breakthroughs in quantum computing, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence present unique opportunities to enhance productivity, improve living standards, and reduce poverty and inequality. However, these advancements also carry the potential to both uplift and divide humanity.

Under this overarching theme, the forum will focus on five key priorities: “Rethinking Growth,” “Industries in the Intelligent Age,” “Investing in People,” “Safeguarding the Planet,” and “Rebuilding Trust.” These priorities aim to address the challenges of the modern era by fostering inclusive growth, embracing technological innovation, empowering individuals, promoting environmental sustainability, and restoring confidence in institutions.

As leaders gather in Davos, the world will be watching for collaborative efforts and actionable strategies that can navigate the complexities of the intelligent age. The outcomes of this meeting could shape the future trajectory of global development and cooperation, making Davos 2025 a pivotal moment in addressing the pressing issues of our time.
