In a significant move to enhance regional cooperation, mayors, representatives, and experts from China and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries convened in Nanning, the capital of south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Thursday. The dialogue focused on promoting urban openness and fostering deeper partnerships among cities in the region.
Nong Shengwen, Party chief of Nanning, highlighted the burgeoning economic ties between China and ASEAN. “Economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN has grown increasingly close, with bilateral trade volume rising from over $600 billion in 2019 to nearly $1 trillion in 2024,” Nong stated. He emphasized the deep integration achieved in industrial, supply, and value chains, underscoring the mutual benefits derived from this collaboration.
Atsaphangthong Siphandone, governor of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, echoed these sentiments.
