Standoff Halts Arrest Attempt of South Korea’s Impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol

South Korean investigators called off their attempt to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol over his failed martial law bid on Friday due to a standoff at his residence.

“Regarding the execution of the arrest warrant today, it was determined that the execution was effectively impossible due to the ongoing standoff. Concern for the safety of personnel on-site led to the decision to halt the execution,” the Corruption Investigation Office said in a statement.

The arrest attempt comes amid escalating tensions following President Yoon’s impeachment over the controversial martial law initiative, which has sparked widespread protests and political instability in the country.

The standoff at the president’s residence has heightened concerns over potential clashes between law enforcement and supporters of the impeached leader. Authorities are reportedly assessing the situation to determine the next steps while ensuring the safety of all involved.
